Politico reporter Burgess Everett asked Sen. Cynthia Lummis if she would support a Trump campaign in 2024. Lummis said he asked the wrong question, calling DeSantis “the leader of the Republican party.” He voted against certifying the 2020 PA election results and acquitting Trump in his second impeachment.

When asked if she would support Donald Trump — the candidate she has supported through two impeachments — in a re-election campaign, Sen. Cynthia Loomis of Wyoming told Politico that she no longer views the former president as her party’s leader. “I don’t think that’s the right question,” the Republican senator told Politico reporter Burgess Everett when asked if she would support a Trump campaign in 2024. “I think the question is: Who is the current leader of the Republican Party? ?”. “Oh, I know who it is,” added Lummis. “Ron DeSandis,” she said, answering her own question by naming Trump’s political opponent. Loomis, who said she would “hold her nose” while voting for Trump in 2016, was endorsed by the then-president during the 2020 election — an endorsement the Wyoming senator said was an “honor” she received. “Right now, it’s more important than ever to follow President Trump’s lead and put America First!” Lummis said after accepting Trump’s political endorsement. He later voted against certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election in Pennsylvania and voted to acquit Trump in his second impeachment trial after the Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill. Loomis’ reversal of her support for Trump comes as GOP politicians and media figures have become increasingly critical of the former president, following the Republican’s lackluster performance during this year’s midterms. DeSantis’ victory over his Democratic challenger by nearly 20 percentage points further bolstered his supporters, who see the Florida governor as a viable conservative alternative to Trump. When asked for additional details about Lummis’ endorsement of DeSantis, representatives for the senator told Insider “her statement stands alone and we have no further comment.” Read the original article on Business Insider
