Police say a woman allegedly tried to attack someone with a gun amid secondary reports of a woman trying to break into a home at Hamber Place and Mount Seymour Road around 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s. Officers believed the same woman was involved in both incidents.

“Officers were able to locate the female and initial efforts to arrest the female were unsuccessful,” said BC RCMP Director Dawn Roberts. “A confrontation ensued which led to one officer discharging his service firearm.” EMS transported the woman to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Story continues below ad The provincial police, the Independent Investigations Bureau, have been notified and are investigating. “Our information is that police fired (a weapon) and we believe the gunshots struck the individual,” said Ron MacDonald, IIO BC’s chief political officer.

A nearby resident said she heard gunshots but just thought they were fireworks. “I was watching TV last night and I heard something outside. Maybe a gunshot or a firework, but we picked it up,” said Jamie Leek, a nearby resident. “We heard a lot of crime happening in Vancouver, but I didn’t think it was over here (in North Vancouver).” Other local residents say this is highly inappropriate for their neighborhood. “It’s a quiet neighborhood.
