Matilda Eriksson, 23, from Espoo, Finland, revealed in a recent TikTok that she never thought she would get married before meeting her stepbrother Samuli, 27. The couple’s parents married in 2019 and Matilda and Samuli became close friends immediately. But it wasn’t until three years later and Matilda’s mother’s 50th birthday party that sparks began to fly. Speaking to Yahoo, the TikTok star – whose wedding videos have garnered millions of views – revealed that Samuli leaned in for a kiss at the family event and didn’t think twice about returning it. Recent bride says she returned stepbrother’s kiss with ‘passion’ Despite friends expressing “crisis”, Matilda says her mother encouraged her to “follow her heart”. The couple were photographed with their parents on their wedding day in March “I immediately responded with passion,” Matilda recalls. “It took us two weeks to start dating after that and he basically moved in with me straight away. I felt good and natural right away.’ However, not everyone in the couple’s life was so understanding of their blossoming romance. At first, Matilda says she was confused about her feelings for her stepbrother and worried about what others would think. “Some of our friends were initially a bit dubious and [were] somewhat to judge,” he said. “I think it was because of the confusion that someone I used to call step-brother should now be called my friend.” The couple say they are “100 percent a match made in heaven” and have no time for haters. But instead of telling her to end it as some might have expected, Matilda says it was her mother who encouraged her to “follow her heart”. Advising her to ignore what her friends were saying, the worried mother advised her to focus on “what felt right in the moment”. Meanwhile, Matilda says her now father-in-law “hoped” they might meet one day. The couple – pictured in March 2021 – say they are a ‘match made in heaven’. However, Matilda says some friends found it difficult to refer to Samuli as her boyfriend when they first started dating Although Matilda and Samuli have both been in long-term relationships in the past, she says that neither of them had ever felt this way about another person before. A few months into their relationship, the couple began researching whether it would be legal for them to marry. Despite the false information they found online, a law student friend of Matilda’s sisters informed the couple that it was perfectly legal. Shortly after, the couple got engaged in October 2021 before tying the knot in March this year. Although the couple’s friends had their reservations at first, the newlyweds said they are now fully behind them after attending their wedding and seeing that they are a ‘match made in heaven’. In October, the couple went viral on TikTok when Matilda shared a video of moments from their wedding day – sparking a heated debate in the comments. While some critics called it “weird”, trolls claimed the couple should “go straight to jail”. That said, others were more lenient about the relationship and compared them to Cher and Josh – who were also siblings – in the 1995 film Clueless. “Guys relax,” one replied. “They’re not even related.” Another added: “Can we make this a movie?”
