The incident was first reported around 1.30 p.m. on Sunday (June 19). Citizens are kindly requested to avoid the area. In a statement, GMP Tameside North and East said: “Emergency services are currently responding to a report that an artillery shell was found in the canal off Cavendish Street in Ashton-under-Lyne. “For precautionary reasons, the surrounding area has been evacuated and a blockade has been imposed.
