Alanis Morissette took to Instagram to explain her absence from a tribute performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday night in Los Angeles. The Ottawa-raised “You Oughta Know” singer was expected to join Olivia Rodrigo in a duet of “You’re So Vain” to honor inductee Carly Simon. But Morissette didn’t take the stage and later posted a message to her followers alluding to an experience with the production team that brought back memories of “a general anti-feminist sentiment” she’s experienced in the entertainment industry. Morissette wrote that she has “sucked it up more times than I can count” to appear in public over the years, but no longer needs to “spend time in an environment that degrades women.” She did not elaborate on the behavior that led to her exit from the show. Rodrigo went on to perform Simon’s tribute solo. Representatives for both Morissette and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame did not respond to requests for comment. “I have had countless incredible experiences with production teams of all genders throughout my life. So much and so much fun,” Morissette continued in her message. “There is nothing better than a group of diverse people coming together with a mission. I will continue to appear in these environments with the bells.”
