Video of the incident shows the man shouting and walking through the crowd while a hymn is being sung. The song makes it difficult to understand what the man is saying, although at least a corruption is heard. Victoria Police said in a press release that two officers escorted the man out of the area where the ceremony was taking place. “He then began fighting with officers and was arrested,” the statement said. VicPD Chief Superintendent Del Manack took to Twitter to call the man’s behavior “extremely disrespectful”.
Extremely disrespectful to disrupt the Memorial Day ceremony. Nearby @vicpdcanada officers intervened and escorted the individual away and arrested him so the ceremony could continue. https://t.co/uiN3OmV6eO — Del Manak (@ChiefManak) November 11, 2022 Police said they plan to file charges of assault on a police officer and mischief against the man, whose name they have not released. VicPD investigators are asking anyone who has video of the incident and has not yet contacted police to contact the VicPD reporting desk at 250-995-7654, extension 1.
