The classroom door was not locked, DPS Director Steven McCrow said during a hearing before a Texas Senate committee Tuesday. He said police officers armed with rifles and protected by armor were at the scene within three minutes. Even if the door was locked, McCraw said, police had tools to break it. However, they waited an hour and 14 minutes to get to class, even though they heard gunshots in progress, knowing that the children had been shot inside and knowing that at least one teacher shot was still alive.
