Other names to look out for include favorite PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley, who is a two-under, as is Canadian Adam Hadwin, and those in the one-under who hope to climb the leaderboard include Sam Burns and Joel Dahmen. “I would be lying if I said I had not thought about it [winning]. “It would just mean the world,” said Fitzpatrick, who could become the first non-American to win both the Amateur and US Open. “It’s a special place for me and going one step further and winning a US Open round here would be even more special. The US amateur was one of the greatest achievements of my career and still is, and if I was winning a big one here, he would definitely surpass it. The final group comes in the short par-3 11th. The T-shirt shots of Zalatoris and Fitzpatrick are almost equal, both reaching to the right of the flag and leaving about 17 feet for the bird. It’s the American to go first and pierce it! Fitzpatrick looked great on the line, but there is some blood and his putt dives low from the hole and runs at about 4 feet. The return attempt goes out. Now it’s Fitzpatrick stumbling! He found the Fairway at 10, but it is a huge par 4 and still has 200 yards up to the pin. His approach catches the front shelter and he loses a 5 foot kick to save the par. Zalatoris found the green and looked at the bird a lot, but he is forced to compromise with it. Three Scheffler shots in the 11th. He only plays 108 yards, but the change in altitude drives away the players and the No. 1 jersey in the world is almost 40 feet behind the flag.
