The smallpox virus has spread to 20 US states and the nation’s capital. So far, 113 infections have been reported, with the majority in California, New York, Illinois and Florida. The New Jersey Department of Health announced its first possible case Monday, and Missouri officials spotted a possible case of a Kansas City resident over the weekend. Other sites report single-digit cases of smallpox and orthopedic smallpox, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Although the majority of new cases of smallpox in monkeys have been reported in gay or bisexual men, experts warn that anyone is at risk.
