Residents in Southern Huron County are about to get their first real taste of winter Saturday afternoon. Environment Canada has upgraded an earlier avalanche watch to a blizzard warning for Goderich, Bluewater and Southern Huron County. Heavy flurries and snow will begin Saturday night and continue into Monday morning, with up to 4cm of snow falling per hour. By early Monday, residents may have 15 cm to 25 cm of fresh snow on the ground. Drivers may experience reduced visibility and roads may be snowy and slippery. Environment Canada recommends postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Environment Canada issues a snow watch when conditions are favorable for the formation of snow bands that could result in heavy snowfall or near zero visibility.
