Snow could start falling in parts of northern England and Scotland towards the end of next week, according to forecasts. According to the Met Office, the first sightings of snow this winter could start in the Scottish Highlands as early as next week before wintry conditions spread further at the end of the month. Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said the current mild conditions were expected to last for at least another five days before the weather turned more unsettled, bringing strong winds and rain before the temperature dropped. Mild and unsettled conditions will persist for at least five days, the Met Office said (Met Office) Next week temperatures will start to drop, with single digit lows around 7C. “With average temperatures for this time of November, you may have rain falling as snow over the higher ground of Scotland and possibly the higher ground of England and Northern Ireland,” Ms Shuttleworth said. He added that wintry conditions will start to worsen in the UK towards the end of the month with drier and settled weather appearing more widely, leading to cooler temperatures. “For the end of November, it generally looks like we will see high pressure and very dry and stable weather,” Ms Shuttleworth said. “This could bring some colder nights. There are no major signals for snow, but we can see frost and fog becoming a bit more likely in late November.” Snow could be seen in higher parts of northern England until the end of November (PA) The Met Office’s long-term weather forecast for November 15 to November 24 says: “Conditions are likely to remain unsettled with further outbreaks of rain and shower, especially in the west where winds may be strong at times. “Eastern parts of the UK are likely to remain the driest, although there could still be some patchy rain. “Moving into November, high pressure may become more influential, bringing longer periods of dry and stable weather with lighter winds.” The forecast covering late November and the first week of December says wet conditions could affect some northern and eastern parts of the UK at times. He adds: “Mist and frost are increasingly likely overnight given clear skies, with mist potentially slow to clear during the day. “Temperatures are expected to be close to average for the season, perhaps rather chilly at times later in the season.” It comes after the UK was hit by rain and flooding (PA wire)
