The incident happened near West 4th Avenue and Arbutus Street in Kitsilano on Sunday night. The Vancouver Police Department says a 24-year-old man and his friend were crossing West 4th Avenue on Arbutus Street around 11:30 p.m. when they were hit by a car. The VPD says the newer silver sedan model “seemed to be traveling at high speeds”. “The driver did not stop and the victim died on the spot,” the sergeant said. Steve Addison in a press release Monday morning. Addison says the victim was pushed a considerable distance and is believed to have been killed instantly. The VPD says it now has a vehicle that matches the description of the suspect car in its booking and is working to determine for sure if it is involved. He did not disclose how or where he was recovered to avoid the risk of an investigation. “If you are a roommate, family member, friend of someone who suddenly has unexplained damage to his vehicle or who woke up this morning and his vehicle left for reasons they really can not explain. “We would like all these people to come forward and talk to our researchers.” The driver has not yet been located. “If you are the driver, if you are in a situation, something bad has happened. We ask you to do the right thing. A man died here. “We ask you to do the right thing, come forward,” said Edison. The VPD’s Conflict Investigation Unit spent the night gathering evidence from the crime scene and said they had spoken to several witnesses. Police are asking businesses in the area or anyone with video cameras to check their shots and contact them if they have pictures of the suspect vehicle. “Anyone who has not yet appeared should contact the investigators immediately,” said Edison. He says that based on the evidence, the driver would have known that someone had been hit and should have remained on the scene. “It is a crime of the penal code. If you are involved in a conflict, especially in a very serious conflict like this. “You need to stay and participate,” said Addison. Police believe the vehicle was traveling east on West 4th Avenue at the time of the collision. The intersection was reopened to traffic in time for the morning commute.
