Three people were displaced after a fire caused significant damage to their apartment on Water Street in downtown St. John’s. The fire, which broke out about 7:30 a.m., was mostly contained to a second-floor unit of an older maisonette that contained four apartments. The St. John’s Regional Fire Department quickly contained the fire, but a basement apartment sustained smoke and water damage. No one was home at the time so there were no injuries. The Canadian Red Cross is providing emergency shelter, food and clothing to two men from the damaged apartment.
