A man has been charged with driving negligence that led to the death of Sault Ste. Marie’s Marnie Scott in a car accident in Kanchanaburi, Thailand on Saturday. The Bangkok Post reports that police are investigating other charges against the 23-year-old driver of a speeding truck. Scott, 49, was pronounced dead at the crash site, CTN News reported. She was riding a bicycle with her husband Joe Scott, changing lanes on a ring road preparing for a reversal, police told the news service. The driver “honked and waited for the cyclist to let his truck pass,” The Thaiger said. “He added that he could not press the brakes fast enough to avoid the collision on the woman’s bicycle.” Marnie and Joe Scott founded the Victory Bible Academy in Mae Sot, Thailand, a ministry of International Christian Freedom and the Thai Foundation for Development and Opportunity. The missionary couple are avid cyclists and fitness enthusiasts. The crash occurred about 500 kilometers south of Mae Sot as they were vacationing in Kanchanaburi, where the famous Kwai River Bridge is located. Their daughters, Maija and Kiera, were traveling with them but were not present during the crash. A celebration for Marnie Scott’s life took place on Tuesday morning (Thai time) at Saman Smat Khee Church in Mae Sot. “Wear bright colors!” said the invitation. “She would not want us to be gloomy. There will be tears, but we will celebrate it with fond memories.” “Marnie is resting,” Joe said. “Her legacy is love and she will live in so many hearts.”
