The RCMP reports that search efforts for a missing man in Portugal Cove South have been exhausted. Loyola Hartery, 68, left home early in an ATV early Friday morning but was unable to return as scheduled. Extensive research was conducted, including the Avalon Central Search and Rescue, as well as aerial research by the 103rd Search and Rescue Squadron, provincial government air services, and the Civil Aviation Search and Rescue Association. Additional shoreline surveys were conducted by the Canadian Coast Guard between Chance Cove Park and just west of Trepassey. RCMP says their thoughts are with the Hartery family. They also thank the many members of the community who helped with the search.
