MKBHD gained exclusive access to the Nothing Phone (1) and showed the front and back. While the front looks like a standard Android smartphone (albeit with equal bezels), the back looks unique. The most unique feature of the phone is not its clean rear design, but its LEDs. The phone uses just over 900 LEDs to create its unique pattern called the Glyph Interface. There is a small C-shaped pattern that surrounds the camera and a larger C-shaped pattern that surrounds the wireless charging surface. There is also a shape that looks like an exclamation mark at the bottom and a hyphen in the upper right corner. The Glyph interface is not just a beautiful display of light and it offers functionality. The LEDs will flash every time you receive an incoming alert and may also light up when you start charging wirelessly. The lights can also show the status of your charge, giving you a visual indication of how much battery has been used up without having to turn on the monitor. The LEDs do not stay on continuously and can be reactivated simply by shaking the phone. The Glyph Interface will have a total of ten ringtones that will also offer synchronized LED patterns. Users will also be able to associate bright patterns with specific contacts. Adjustments can even be made to applications, giving users an idea of the type of alert that has arrived. Although it may sound boring, this is important, as it is considered the evolution of the warning LED. The Glyph interface can even be used as a fill light when taking photos or videos. Finally, there is a flashing red LED that shows people when you register. This is quite an idea, but one has to wonder how long the honeymoon period will last. It will be interesting to see how far Nothing can reach this move and to see how many will stay together for the trip. The company will hold an event on July 12. If you’re a little worried and can not wait a few weeks, you can always seize the opportunity and bid on the first 100 headphones that are now up for auction. Just be careful, as it seems that the handset does not offer global support, with the company stating that it may not work fully or at all in North America. You can check Nothing’s website to confirm provider compatibility.
