Locals said the road on Martens Avenue in Bexleyheath began to crack and collapse around 9pm on Tuesday. The video showed the motorcycle still in the hole and Darren – who chose not to give his full name – said the rider had a “lucky escape”. “It happened just outside my house and no one was injured as far as I know, thankfully, but the person on the bike escaped with a lucky escape,” he said. “He left the scene before the emergency services arrived. “It was quite exciting but also scary as we were informed that we might need to evacuate if things went well.” Mark Joynes, 38, told KentOnline he spotted the seven-meter gap as he turned on the road, but the rider was not so lucky. “Obviously he did not see the hole. He tried to jump it, but the bike ended up in the hole. The guy ran away,” he said. A sink is usually created by corrosion caused by frequent exposure to water.
