The incident happened at Notre Dame Catholic High School in 1375 Harwood Ave. N., just north of Rossland Road.
According to Durham Police, the school decided to order the lockdown.
“As a precautionary measure the school was put on lockdown while the Durham Regional Police Department (DRPS) is investigating,” the council told CP24.
J. Clarke Richardson College, whose building is adjacent to Notre Dame de Paris, also observed a “precautionary lock”.
The lockdowns in both schools were lifted shortly after 3:30 p.m.
