No, it’s not an exercise: just days after the announcement of Renaissance’s much-anticipated new studio album to be released on July 29, Beyoncé seems to have confirmed that the project ‘s top single, “Break My Soul”, will be released tonight at midnight EST / 9. pm PST. The artist updated her CV on social media on Monday morning to read: “6. BREAK MY SOUL at midnight ET. ” The number preceding the title of the song seems to confirm that “Break My Soul” is the sixth track on the album. Hawkeyed fans on social media have already noted that Renaissance seems to be a 16-track album. When Beyoncé first announced the new project last Thursday, it also included the subtitle “act i”, implying that the Renaissance can be divided into many parts. According to Variety, the new project will include contributions from OneRepublic singer Ryan Tedder and Rafael Saadiq, a legendary hitmaker who has collaborated with Mary J. Blige, D’Angelo and Stevie Wonder, among others. Saadiq is no stranger to the Knowles family – he also worked on Beyoncé Solange’s sister’s famous 2016 album A Seat At The Table. Although Beyoncé has contributed her talents to the recent soundtracks of King Richard and The Lion King, she has not released a solo studio album from the impressive 2016 Lemonade. She collaborated with her husband Jay-Z on Everything Is Love 2018 and released a live album from Coachella’s historic backdrop in 2019 entitled Homecoming. While some stores have predicted that Beyoncé will release a new track to honor Juneteenth on Sunday, as it did with the 2020 “Black Parade”, the time of “Break My Soul” does not necessarily seem to be holiday-related.
