(File photo.) The deputy mayor of St. John’s Sheilagh O’Leary is quitting Twitter due to what she calls fraudulent accounts and toxicity on the social media platform. O’Leary posted a Tweet on Monday saying she had suspended her account and sent all inquiries to her email. O’Leary is not the first councilor to do so, councilor Ophelia Ravencroft deleted her profile months ago. The deputy mayor says she had been considering deleting her account for some time and finally made the decision after recent changes to the social media platform. O’Leary says she’s readily available to residents, but believes being available on a platform she considers toxic isn’t good for her mental health and productivity. Hi Guys. I am suspending my Twitter account due to fraudulent accounts and continued toxicity. This account will not be monitored. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] for @CityofStJohns matters. Thanks. — Sheilagh O’Leary (@sheilagholeary) (@Sheilagholeary) November 14, 2022
