The Crown viewers are reacting to the return of one of the show’s original stars. The Netflix series returns for its fifth and penultimate series with an all-new cast including Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce and Lesley Manville. Those tuning in to see what Staunton would bring to the role of Queen Elizabeth II were immediately met with a comparison in the form of returning star Claire Foy. You can watch live updates from the new season here. Foy played the queen in the show’s first two seasons, earning acclaim as well as two Emmy Awards for her performance. One of those trophies was for her guest appearance in the show’s fourth season, and viewers are convinced she’ll pick up another award for this new two-minute cameo, which appears in the opening scene of season five. “WOW! Is Claire Foy coming for her second Guest Actress Emmy?” One fan wrote, while another added: “I guess that’s her third Emmy there huh.” Many hailed Foy’s performance, with one calling her “irreplaceable” and another declaring it “by far the best performance of the Queen I’ve seen”. “Claire Foy in The Crown s5 opening scene won me over today,” said one fan, with one saying: “One second into season five of The Crown and already a guest appearance from Claire Foy. you can’t outrun the doer!!!!!” The fifth season of The Crown is now available to stream on Netflix. In the new season, one scene appears to deal with the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew, while another has fans “overwhelmed” by a touching moment between Princess Diana and Prince William and Harry. However, many admit they are “struggling” with casting two different cast members – one because of their “hotness” and the other because of a previous role they played in Harry Potter.
