Officers were called to investigate at around 5.30pm and said they later discovered a bag at the scene. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) has now been called to the scene. Footage from the scene shows pedestrians blocked behind police tape outside the Balmoral Hotel. A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At around 5.30pm. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, officers were called to Princes Street, Edinburgh, to a report of a man acting suspiciously. “A bag was later found nearby and a cordon has been put in place as a precaution. The police are present and called the EMS.” Passengers were turned away from Edinburgh Waverley station earlier but ScotRail says services are running. In a tweet, ScotRail said: “Following police dealing with an incident at Edinburgh Waverley a few minutes ago, all lines have now reopened. We’re sorry if your service was canceled or you experienced a delay in your journey.” Stagecoach says it is currently unable to serve Edinburgh Bus Station as a result of the incident.
