With commuters facing a week of chaos on the railways, teachers have been added to the list of those considering striking ballots, which also includes doctors, nurses, civil servants, local government staff, lawyers, postmen, engineers and BT engineers. Teachers will go on strike if they do not receive a significantly improved pay offer by Wednesday. NHS staff are also likely to be notified of their pay this week. If their remuneration does not increase significantly, the nursing association will consult its members about the actions it needs to take.
