The Canadian Union of Public Employees gave a five-day notice Wednesday after negotiations broke down, and workers are set to walk out en masse Monday if no deal is reached.
The 55,000 education workers walked off the job for two days earlier this month after the province introduced legislation that forced them into a contract and took away their right to strike.
The government then promised to repeal the legislation and workers returned to their jobs as negotiations resumed.
CUPE said the two sides recently agreed to a 3.59 percent pay rise, but the union is still fighting for higher staffing levels for teaching assistants, librarians, custodians, secretaries and early childhood teachers.
Education Minister Steven Lecce said the government had submitted multiple improved offers and had not asked for concessions.
