The full text of the press release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie OPP follows: On November 15, 2022, the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic related duties on Highway 17 in Havilland Township. A vehicle was observed traveling at a very high rate of speed in a posted 90 km/h zone. Police stopped the vehicle, spoke with the driver and determined that alcohol had been consumed. The driver was then arrested and transported to Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment for further review. Drew Hulan, 23, of Elliot Lake, Ont., was charged with: • Operating while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80+), contrary to Penal Code Section 320.14(1)(b) • Driving a motor vehicle vehicle – perform a stunt – speeding, contrary to Section 72(1) of the Highway Traffic Act • Drive a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor, contrary to Section 42(1)(a) of the Liquor Licensing Act The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on December 5, 2022. The defendant was issued an administrative license suspension (ADLS) for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
