2 About Tampa Bay went 1-0 up in less than a minute in the first period as Anthony Cirelli shot one after another and threw Darcy Kuemper’s helmet. The Avalanche recovered, however, with Nathan MacKinnon breaking a 32-goal unbeaten streak with his first goal in the Finals in the second period. The Lightning lost some time, however, with Victor Hedman giving them another goal lead five minutes later. Colorado continued to attack and managed to equalize again in the third from the deflection of Andrew Cogliano. This led to the exciting end of the extra time, with Nazem Kadri finally breaking Andrei Vasilevskiy’s defenses into a counterattack goal. The Avalanche are now one win away from a title and it’s good news for them historically – every team that has risen 3-1 to a defending Stanley Cup champions has ended up with its own league. Here are all the sights and sounds from Game 4.

Final sentences from the 4th game

Colorado went again for a quick finish in overtime. Three of the 15 seasons after setting in these playoffs are over in 90 seconds or less. Andre Burakowski hastily ended things for Colorado back at the end of the first game 4-3 OT. Valeri Nichuskhkin got dangerously close to scoring again for Andrei Vasilevkiy but could not get enough air to beat Tampa Bay’s impressive defense. Logan O’Connor had the next big chance to score in a split, but did not get a good shot on Vasilevski. The goalkeeper easily stopped his effort. Bowen Byram hit the crossbar. Devon hit them on the crossbar. Vasilevsky stopped slapping Josh Manson. It was right that Nazem Kadri ended extra time with a winner to give the Avalanche an impressive 3-1 lead in the series in the Stanley Cup final.– Kristen Shelton

Avs take Game 4

Nazem Kadri is the hero in overtime, scoring the winning goal in the 12th minute. It was the first time Kadri had played since breaking his thumb on June 4th. A very grateful follower? Food in a package of the third period

The referees seem to have cleared their whistles. This happened in the third period as Colorado and Tampa Bay ruled it out in search of the winning goal. However, the players on both sides did not seem happy about it. There have been calls to officials for calls that could be huge shifts in momentum. No such decisions were made by the referees. Regardless, it was a finish that matched the rules. This was the most controversial game in the series. Tampa Bay seemed dominant early on and Avalanche was all over them in third place. Both Darcy Kuemper and Andrei Vasilevskiy were fantastic. Creates a big goal in overtime. Who breaks first? – Kristen Shelton

Front and back

This could end up being the closest game to these Stanley Cup finals, as Avalanche equalized again with a goal from Nico Sturm. What a beauty! #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/qJ9VxfgPek – Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) June 23, 2022

Second period avalanches in a package

Nathan MacKinnon entered the conversation. It could not have come at a better time. The Colorado star had been bitten by a snake to start the Stanley Cup final, failing to score in the first three games. MacKinnon vowed not to be disappointed (a feature of previous falls) and to continue firing until he found an opening. The power-play goal was not exactly beautiful, nor did it need a real shot. But he equalized the score in the 4th game to 1-1. It was MacKinnon who actually gave the elf to Mikko Rantanen and Rantanen sent it back into the net where the elf bounced off his skate and passed Andrei Vasilevskiy. They do not ask how. They ask how many. No one needed a goal like MacKinnon, however. While the stars of Tampa Bay are rising, it was bad in Colorado to see his great player with only two assists in three outings. An ongoing problem, though? Colorado has not had an equivalent power target since the series shifted to Tampa. all three have arrived so far with the extra man. Not very well. – Kristen Shelton

Lightning in a second season package

Last night was a strange night for Lightning defender Victor Hedman and Colorado Avalanche defender Cale Makar. It was the night before the 4th game of the Stanley Cup final and they were dressed in costumes at the NHL Awards dinner, which took place at a local Tampa brewery. Hedman put everything together to see Makar win the Norris trophy as the NHL’s best defender. It was the sixth time Hedman had been nominated for the award. He has only won it once. So, it was probably a matter of satisfaction for Hedman in the second half, when he scored the kind of goal that makes up Norris’s trophies: Hanging in the neutral zone, after the Avalanche defense, before passing a shot in front of the side that Darcy Kumber blocks for a 2-1 lead at 10:42 of the period. Were Jack Johnson’s defense and a Kuemper scent a lot of that goal? Agreed, it was. But it was a wonderful move and a monumental goal by Hedman. We’re checking NHL rules to see if Makar should hand over Norris to him legally now. The other big appearance of the second period was the goalkeeper Andrei Vasilevski. He left a power-play goal with an elf bouncing off Nathan MacKinnon’s skate – Avalanche’s sixth power-play goal in a row – but was otherwise a vintage Big Cat with 15 saves in the period. If Lightning did not stop them, it would save them. But the season did not end well for the Bolts. Anthony Cirelli, their main center of defense against the MacKinnon line, let the ice hold his hand for a little over a minute to finish. Definitely something to look out for in the third.– Greg Wisinski

Tampa regains the lead

Everything tied

The Avalanche struck back a few minutes into the second period, with MacKinnon sending a rebound for his first goal in a row after 32 attempts, the most by any player on any team. Food in the package of the first avalanche period

Colorado could not see this beginning. It would take Tampa Bay just 36 seconds to climb 1-0 over the Avalanche in an incredibly crazy series. Lightning had good attacking pressure on the zone early on when Erik Cernak shot Darcy Kuemper who immediately threw the goalkeeper mask. Kuemper then could not stop the game of Anthony Cirelli that followed that put Tampa Bay on the board. Normally, when a goalkeeper’s mask comes out, a whistle sounds immediately, but in this case, because there was an ongoing goal opportunity, the game was allowed to continue. Kuemper had a pretty tough game 4 before that. He took the nod to start after being dragged in the middle of game 3 because he scored five goals in 22 shots. He did not need a strange goal that would further boost his confidence. Kuemper rebounded (no pun) well though, while Avalanche fell in front of him, losing 10-1 in the first 13 minutes. In fact, Kuemper was the only thing that kept Colorado together for those first 20 minutes. This is a dangerous place for the Avalanche to get inside. He made a great glove on Steven Stamkos and then stepped on Tampa Bay’s opportunity in slow power-play. Avalanche finished the season 17-4. Yes. – Kristen Shelton

Lightning in a package of the first period

The Lightning are 7-1 when they have a lead after the first period in the playoffs, which is another way of saying that this is a team that knows how to play with a lead. He blocked 13 shots in front of Vasilevski and changed a few more. They blocked the neutral zone and did not allow Avalanche to create the speed game. Lightning gained significant belt time with their forecheck, especially with their fourth line winning the game’s only power play. That said, it is still only a 1-0 lead for Lightning after the first, despite the opportunity for power-play and the 17 shots on goal. There were some missed opportunities there and Kuemper was able to regain his place after an unstable start. – Greg Wisinski

Without wasting time

It seems that Lightning overcame their disastrous game 2, as it took less than a minute for the first goal of the match. Also a scary moment for Kuemper, as the goalkeeper grabbed a stick in the neck that threw his helmet. ΕΡΧΟΝΤΑΙ ΚΑΥΤΑ 🔥 pic.twitter.com/MfmSVUuQtD – Tampa Bay Lightning (@TBLightning) June 23, 2022
