Police were called to a park near the school around 5:22 Friday afternoon where a fight had taken place. Not 10 minutes later, after the victims sought shelter inside the school, the campus was locked down with staff and students confined inside. Police do not have information on the age or gender of the victims. Initially, police had said four people were injured, and it was unclear if those injuries were the result of gunfire. Laval police spokesman Sgt. Geneviève Major said when the victims ran into the school, it initially created some confusion about where the shootings took place. But no shots were fired on campus, he said. The students’ parents gathered outside the school two hours later, but police were still keeping students and staff inside while searches and security checks were carried out, Radio-Canada reports. Investigators are looking for one or more suspects, police said. Laval police are at the scene of a shooting outside Collège Montmorency, in Laval, Que. (Kolya Hubacek-Guilbault/Radio-Canada) Collège Montmorency, located on Avenue Avenir, is a public post-secondary CEGEP in the Chomedey area of Laval just north of Montreal. The school has more than 8,300 students and 1,300 staff members. Eric Nicoll, a college spokesman, said in an email that he sent a message to all staff and students informing them of the situation and that “we are closely monitoring developments.” Until then, everyone trapped inside the building should remain there until further notice, he said. The Université de Montréal also sent out an alert saying no one is allowed to enter its nearby campus, although people are allowed to leave. Earlier in the day, police arrested a suspect as part of a major police operation at another CEGEP in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., — where students and staff were locked down for more than seven hours. No one was injured in the incident. There is no connection between the two incidents.
