Video released online showed the dog unable to stand as it was dragged down a street from its lead in Birmingham. A person filming the footage from a nearby car can be heard shouting at the woman: ‘You’re hurting your dog. You hit the curb. “The dog’s gonna die you know, bro. The dog’s gonna die, stop it man.” The woman is seen looking at the camera before walking away mumbling something inaudible and continuing down the street. The clip caused an uproar online after it was shared by blog ‘Birmz Is Grime’ on Twitter, prompting police and the RSPCA to launch an investigation. The animal charity has now seized the dog and is being examined by a vet while inquiries continue.

“Why hasn’t anyone stopped her?”

An RSPCA spokesman said: “A dog seen in a video posted online has been seized by police and is now in RSPCA care and being checked by a vet. “Our inquiries are ongoing so we will not be releasing any further information at this time, but we would like to thank West Midlands Police for assisting with this investigation and helping to find the dog so quickly.” One person commented: “Why hasn’t anyone stopped her?” Another saying: “This has been reported. It’s horrible.” A third wrote: “Poor dog. I hope they find the lady driving and get the dog off her.” Another simply added: “This is boring.” A West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed on Wednesday: “We are aware of a distressing video circulating on social media involving a dog. “We’ve been told it happened somewhere in Erdington, Birmingham in the last few days. “We are currently looking into this to see if we have received any reports and will also be contacting the RSPCA.” It follows a separate incident in Norwich where police said they want to speak to a pensioner who fell and killed a pigeon on his mobility scooter. The bald man with gray hair and a beard can be seen on CCTV footage pointing his mobility scooter at the bird at around 4mph as it perched on the pavement on a footpath. He hit the bird while he casually smoked a cigarette and then dragged it several feet under his wheels, leaving a trail of feathers behind him. The images show the pensioner stop and look behind him before realizing the pigeon was still stuck under his scooter in St Gregory’s Alley in Norwich, Norfolk. Footage of the incident captured by a security camera has been posted on social media by Norwich pigeon fan group Peck Savers.
