The Deadpool star told The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Monday that he is interested in joining an ownership consortium that would buy the team. “I’m trying to do that,” Reynolds said when Fallon asked if he hopes to own the franchise. “I love Ottawa,” she said. “I spent a lot of time in Vanier there, which is a small town inside Ottawa.” Reynolds arrived in Ottawa Tuesday afternoon and will be at the Canadian Tire Center to watch the Senators take on the hometown Vancouver Canucks, sources told CTV News Ottawa. The Senators confirmed last week that the team is for sale and that a condition of any deal for the franchise would be to remain in Ottawa. People magazine reported last week that Reynolds is interested in buying the team. “It’s very expensive. I have to work with very deep pockets,” Reynolds told Fallon. “It’s called a joint venture… when you form a group together to buy an entity,” he added. “It’s a fancy way of saying I need a sugar mama or sugar daddy.” Sportico has valued the Senators at US$655 million, a 21 percent jump from last year. Reynolds, a Vancouver native, has strong Ottawa connections. He and his wife Blake Lively made generous donations to the Ottawa Food Bank and the Distress Center of Ottawa and Region during the pandemic. He also has experience owning sports franchises. He bought Wrexham AFC, the third oldest professional football club in the world, with Rob McElhenney, creator, producer and co-star of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
