Ukraine’s top human rights researcher has released a video of an alleged torture chamber used by Russian forces in Kherson where captive locals were given electric shocks. Messages reading “Pray to God for us” and “God give us strength” were found on the walls of the hall, Ukraine’s defense ministry said, sharing the evidence today. “Whatever language you spoke, the slightest disobedience to the conquerors was enough to send you to the dungeon,” the defense ministry said. On the front line of the battle in eastern Ukraine, there has been no respite in heavy fighting with the Ukrainian military reporting that Moscow’s occupation forces appear more active in Donetsk. It comes as Moscow refused to elaborate on a warning message delivered by the CIA director to Moscow this week about the consequences of any Russian nuclear strike on Ukraine. It was the first known high-level, face-to-face contact between representatives of Moscow and Washington since Russia invaded Ukraine in February. Show latest update 1668750637

Video of Russian “torture chamber” in Kherson released by Ukraine

A top Ukrainian human rights official has shared a video of a room allegedly used by Russian forces to torture people in the Kherson region, saying the space could hold 25 people at a time without being allowed to use the toilet. Ukrainian parliament’s human rights commissioner Dmytro Lubinets showed a series of bare underground rooms with dirty walls and floors that he said were used for detention, interrogation and torture. Russian forces used electric shocks to secure confessions, the top official said. “They asked the questions they wanted and got the answers they wanted,” said one man who said he had been held in one of the rooms for 24 days. The man said he was tied to a chair and subjected to repeated electric shocks “until he passed out” and, after a break, the procedure continued. “One thing after another. They prepared a bunch of questions and wrote everything they wanted,” he said in the video. Arpan Rai18 November 2022 04:40 1668742250
