Ukraine will have to fight to secure victory against Russia’s invasion of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky said today as he delivered an impassioned speech at the G20 summit of world leaders in Bali. To liberate Ukrainian land “we will have to fight for a little while longer”, Mr Zelensky said, a day after he said the liberation of Kherson showed the end of the war was near. He also called for a clear Russian exit from Ukraine, withdrawing all its troops and armed formations, to bring about an end to the war. This comes a day after he triumphantly walked the streets of the newly liberated city of Kherson, hailing Russia’s withdrawal as the “beginning of the end of the war”. But he also acknowledged the heavy price Ukrainian troops are paying in their desperate effort to push back the invaders. The recapture of Kherson was one of Ukraine’s biggest successes in the nearly nine-month war, dealing another stinging blow to the Kremlin. It could serve as a springboard for further advances in the occupied territories.

We have to fight “a little more” for victory, Zelensky tells G20
Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine should fight to secure victory against Russia’s invasion of the country, a day after he said the liberation of Kherson showed the end of the war was near. The Ukrainian president delivered an impassioned speech via video link at the G20 summit of world leaders in Bali today. For the liberation of Ukrainian land “we will have to fight for a little while longer,” Zelensky said. He also called for a clear Russian exit from Ukraine, withdrawing all its troops and armed formations, to bring about an end to the war. “Ukraine’s control of all sections of our state border with Russia must be restored,” the wartime president said. Mr Zelensky also said his country should not be offered compromises on its conscience, sovereignty, territory and independence, saying peace talks could only begin once they were secured. Vladimir Putin is not attending the G20, where Western leaders have said they will take a strong stand against the Ukraine war. Arpan Rai15 November 2022 04:30 1668484800
Ukrainian soldiers tie the flag to the partially collapsed Antonivskiy bridge in the Kherson region
Troops tied the Ukrainian flag to the Antonivskiy bridge in the Kherson region after it was partially destroyed. Footage shared on Telegram shows a soldier fixing the flag to the railing, while another shows how badly the bridge has been damaged by walking to the edge. Before it collapsed, it was an important strategic passage from the southern city of Kherson to the eastern bank of the Dnipro River. Several bridges were badly damaged after Russia withdrew from the city, according to Ukrainian and Russian sources.

Ukraine ‘dictates’ next stage of war, says ex-British intelligence officer
Ukrainian troops have gained further momentum and are now dictating where the next battle will be fought in the war with Russia, a former senior British military intelligence officer says. “Ukraine has the initiative and the momentum and is dictating to the Russians where and when the next battle will be,” said Philip Ingram, the former military intelligence officer. That means the focus of the war in Ukraine could well shift to Bakhmut in the heavily industrialized eastern Donbas region, where Russia has been trying to break through for months but faces stiff resistance from Ukrainian troops. “Winter will slow things down, but it won’t stop them – the Ukrainians will be well prepared to continue fighting through the winter, the Russians will be less prepared to survive the winter cold,” said Mr. Ingram. UN General Assembly calls for Russian reparations to Ukraine
The UN General Assembly passed a resolution on Monday calling on Russia to be held accountable for violating international law by invading Ukraine, including by paying reparations for extensive damage to the country and for Ukrainians killed and injured during the war. The vote in the 193-member global body was 94-14 with 73 abstentions. It was close to the lowest level of support for any of the five Ukraine-related resolutions passed by the General Assembly since Russia’s February 24 invasion of its smaller neighbor. The resolution recognizes the need to create an “international mechanism to redress damage, loss or injury” resulting from Russia’s “illegal actions” against Ukraine. US sanctions non-Russians linked to military suppliers
The US said on Monday it is imposing sanctions on a list of people and companies around the world it says are involved in supporting the Russian military as it wages war against Ukraine. In contrast to recent sanctions packages imposed on Russian-based companies and people, the latest economic and diplomatic sanctions target a range of entities, including French real estate companies, a group of Swiss nationals and a Taiwanese buyer of microelectronic components. All are accused of being financial facilitators or facilitators of the Russian military supply chain, which US officials vowed to disrupt after the February invasion of Ukraine.
