Former world number one Rory McIlroy says he was surprised by Brooks Koepka’s decision to star in the Saudi-backed LIV Invitational series
Rory McIlroy says he is surprised by the “double” behavior of some of the golfers who have joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational series.
The Big Four winner Brooks Koepka is the latest big name player to leave the PGA Tour to join the controversial split series.
Koepka retired from Thursday’s PGA Tour, Connecticut Traveler Championship, and will compete in the second LIV event in Portland next week.
He will follow Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson to the LIV series.
“Am I surprised? McIlroy asked before the Travelers’ Championship.
“Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me .
“But it is very ambiguous for them to say one thing and then do something else; all the way, publicly and privately, all that.”
World No. 4 Collin Morikawa has denied rumors that he will follow Koepka in the LIV series, as has Justin Thomas, who is out of the Travelers Championship due to injury.
“Before the rumors started circulating, I decided at WD to take care of myself and rest my back, which I improved on earlier this week,” he wrote on Twitter.
“I just make sure to take care of it and get it ready for the rest of the PGA season as planned. I do not like to miss one of my best / favorite @TravelersChamp events!”
