Some streets and sidewalks will be closed Sunday (November 13) due to a helicopter operation transporting heavy signage to a building in downtown Vancouver. From 9 am until 3 p.m. Thurlow Street from Canada Place to West Georgia Street and Georgia Street from Thurlow to Burrard Streets will be closed. A helicopter will transport four pieces of large-scale LED signage for Canadian Western Bank (CWB), which will be moved from Coal Harbor to the top of the CWB building at the corner of West Georgia and Thurlow streets. Access to homes and businesses in the area will still be available, but residents can expect intermittent noise and street, sidewalk and parking restrictions in these areas:

W Georgia St will be closed from Thurlow to Burrard St. 9am-3pm Thurlow St will be closed from Canada Pl to Georgia St. 9am-3pm The east/west roads intersecting with Thurlow Street will remain open except for closure breaks when the helicopter flies over the road.

The largest of the four pieces weighs 6000 pounds and will take eight flights to transport the four loads. Each flight will last between 10 and 15 minutes over a period of approximately three hours.

Vancouver Police will be on site directing traffic and drivers are asked to follow detours and “No Parking” signs. Those traveling in and around the area should plan ahead and expect delays.
