Mick Lynch, general secretary of the National Railroad, Shipping and Transportation Workers’ Union (RMT), clashed with Stoke-on-Trent MP Jonathan Gullis on BBC Politics Live after the latter accused the rail network of fearing the adoption of modern technology. It comes as half of Britain’s railways closed on Tuesday as members of the National Rail, Shipping and Transport Workers’ Union (RMT) and Unite take action on wages, jobs and conditions. Mr Goulis suggested that the payroll demanded by the union “would add more cost to the rail network, making it more unaffordable for working people”. Mick Lynch, secretary general of the National Rail, Shipping and Transportation Workers’ Union (RMT), clashed with Stoke-on-Trent MP Jonathan Gullis on BBC Politics Live (BBC Politics Live) The Tory MP added: “He should apologize to the doctors and nurses who can not go to the hospital, the patients who can not have their surgery, the children who will lose their education today, but also to them. “Veterans of the armed forces who risked their lives for our freedoms, who will not be able to celebrate Armed Forces Day on Saturday.” The RMT boss replied: “Well, I think Jonathan should apologize for saying nonsense, none of this is true. “We have automated technology on the trains. “All this is rubbish.” Mr Leeds added: “These are just things that are being written at the Conservatives’ headquarters for MPs to launch.” The union says it is protesting government cuts, working conditions and unsatisfactory wage increases against rising inflation. Speaking about the latest attempt to negotiate between the union and the government on Monday, Mr Leeds said: “The pay package they have proposed is much less than the cost of living in this country. It is an insignificant amount, the offer they have made is two percent. “We are campaigning to reach a square agreement for our people.
