The province issued a COVID-19 mask mandate for indoor public spaces and public transportation in the summer of 2020. In mid-May, it became the last province to abolish the face cover requirement for indoor public spaces, and from now on, authorities say the use of a mask will be a personal choice. Masks are still mandatory in hospitals, long-term care homes and other healthcare facilities. The Quebec government announced the plan to remove the masks on public transport 10 days ago, a decision backed by the province’s public health officials. In the latest data released on Friday, Quebec health officials reported 1,029 people being treated for the disease, including 26 in intensive care.
