The puppy, now named Poppy, was found frightened, exhausted and shaking, the organization said. “This is a truly heartbreaking story,” Sam Sattar, director of the animal center, said in a statement. “One of our staff came into the animal center before opening to walk one of the dogs we care for and noticed movement in one of our planter boxes. When they went to check what it could be, they found Poppy.” In addition to being left out in the cold, Sattar said when they checked the security footage they saw someone get up in the middle of the night and put Poppy at the gate of the center. We will be happy to take them under our care.” Poppy was found in a planter where she had been in the cold for hours. However, she is very nervous and fearful around men, according to the BC SPCA. “Poppy started out very quiet and sad, but like most sick puppies, now that she is feeling better, her behavior has completely changed. She is super playful and full of energy, she hops and skips like a fawn,” added Sattar.
