You will be able to reserve a campsite at a BC provincial park earlier next year. The Department for the Environment and Climate Change Strategy has announced that many campsites will open for bookings at 7am. (Pacific time) on January 3, 2023, and people can reserve a site four months in advance of their desired arrival date, compared to the previous two-month reservation window. “Through our ongoing engagement with visitors, we’ve heard that the majority of campers prefer a four-month rolling window, allowing people to book a site well in advance of their visit,” said George Heyman, Minister for the Environment and Strategy for Climate Change. “We will continue to listen to public feedback so we can improve people’s experiences in the parks and ensure everyone has easy access to the many beautiful parks and countryside our province has to offer.” Other changes are made in response to feedback from the public. More campsites are being added to the new reservation service for the 2023 season, including Allison Lake Park near Princeton, Yahk Park near the Kingsgate border crossing and Gwillim Lake Park near Chetwynd. Bookings for the popular Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit at Bowron Lake Provincial Park will open for the entire 2023 season at 7am. of December 1, 2022. “We are lucky to live in a province that has a wealth of spectacular parks for people to connect with nature and learn about Indigenous history and culture,” said Kelly Greene, Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment. “We continue to expand camping opportunities and improve accessibility so more people can experience the natural treasures of our beautiful province.” Only 14 sites at Kinney Lake Campground in Mount Robson Provincial Park will be available this year due to ongoing repairs to the Berg Lake Trail, which was damaged by extreme weather in 2021. These sites open for the four-month rolling reservation window on 7 a.m. of February 1, 2023. The new BC Parks reservation service launched in March 2022. Feedback from more than 5,000 through a user experience survey drove improvements to the reservation service and a redesign of the BC Parks website. In 2022, more than 317,000 reservations were made on the new BC Parks reservation service, a 26.5% increase from 2019.
