Military celebrations mark the day, with the Band of the Household Cavalry playing Happy Birthday outside Buckingham Palace during the changing of the guard ceremony. Gun salutes are also fired across London, with the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery firing 41 rounds from Green Park. An hour later, the Honorable Artillery Company will fire a 62-gun salute from the Tower of London. This is the king’s first birthday since becoming monarch following the queen’s death.
