The fight happened shortly after 12 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Fischer-Hallman Road and Queen’s Boulevard and involved about 20 youths, according to Waterloo Regional Police. Police say one of the youths involved brandished a firearm during the incident. “There’s so much fighting here and there’s always guns coming out and everything,” local teenager Logan Bourgon told CTV News. “We’ve had a few incidents of this type of thing in the area,” Darius Campbell said. Police say no injuries were reported. Young people who saw the fight describe it as “massive”. “I just saw a whole group of people coming together,” Forat Ahmed said. “I went and followed them, me and my friends. Then they started fighting out of nowhere.” “It was just a tremendous fight,” Adam Tuka said. Earlier this week, Deputy Police Chief John Goodman spoke about concerns about youth crime and guns during an interview with CTV News. “I would suggest there has been an increase with youth and guns. It’s not unusual, but certainly some of the weapons that are showing up now are very concerning,” Goodman said. “Firearms are a concern, knives are a concern, knives are a concern, we had a bear in a school. There are some major concerns for us.” In a square in the area, a restaurant waitress says she often sees fights outside at noon. “It happens all the time, every day,” said Patti Battell, who works at the Halibut House in the Highland Hills Mall Plaza. Battell says people are trying to bring their own food, forcing the restaurant to post a sign telling students they can only come in if they buy food. “But I get to the point where I just can’t be nice anymore, because they just don’t understand nice, but then they don’t understand anger either,” Battell said. Police are still investigating the altercation and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
