A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a Bell P-63 Kingcobra collided and crashed into the ground at the Wings Over Dallas Airshow around 1:20 p.m. Saturday, according to the FAA. “It’s like literally, as you looked up, you saw the big plane and then you saw one of the small planes separate from the three and then as soon as it separated it’s like they collided with each other and the small plane split the big plane in half. I honestly can’t believe we witnessed it, like we’re standing here under it,” said Morgan Curry, who saw the crash from a nearby parking lot. “We were all just standing there like, ‘What just happened?’” Hundreds of people visit the annual Wings Over Dallas Airshow each year. Those who attended on Saturday recorded the crash on their phones. Curry said she has been going to the air show for years and has never seen anything like it. No information has been released at this time on the condition of the pilots, or if any injuries were reported from falling debris, and it is unknown how many people were on board both planes. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide additional updates. US Southbound 67 will be closed for several hours and traffic is being diverted. Southbound 67 will remain closed. Additionally, Dallas Executive Airport will remain closed during the investigation.
