A New Hampshire hiker who suffered bad weather and sent a message to his wife that he would die without help succumbed to his injuries after rescuers located him on a mountain trail in a hypothermic state on Saturday night, authorities said. The hiker, later identified as 53-year-old Xi Chen, from Andover, Massachusetts, was trying to cross the Presidential Range when bad weather hit the Gulfside Trail near Mount Clay in Coos County, New Hampshire....
CNN — Nicole has weakened to a tropical storm after making landfall as a Category 1 hurricane along Florida’s east coast early Thursday morning, lashing the region with heavy rain and dangerous storm surge as it became the first hurricane to hit the U.S. in November in nearly 40 years. The remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole brought Newfoundland its first winter storm of the season Saturday, with many areas across the island battered by snow, rain, wind and ice pellets. Nicole, which struck Florida as a Category 1 hurricane on Thursday, is expected to track near or over much of Newfoundland throughout Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Newfoundland’s southwest coast saw its highest rainfall levels since Saturday afternoon, with Burgeo getting about 56 millimeters of rain and the Port aux Basques area about 51 millimeters, Environment Canada meteorologist Melissa Field said....
A noose was discovered at the Obama Presidential Center construction site in Chicago on Thursday, prompting the team overseeing the project to suspend work at the site. The Lakeside Alliance, a consortium of several construction companies working at the centre, issued a statement saying they had reported the incident to the police and “will provide any assistance required to identify those responsible”.
