South Wales police have confirmed the boy’s death following an extensive investigation involving police officers, firefighters, ambulances, port workers and a police helicopter. Det Insp Abi Biddle said the boy was with other children on the river near Forest Farm Road in Whitchurch, Cardiff, before disappearing shortly before 5 p.m. “The missing 13-year-old boy was found in the river around 5.45 p.m. “And despite the efforts of the emergency services, it could not be revived,” Biddle said....

Juneteenth celebrations have already started this weekend in Galveston Texas, the city where the holiday has its roots. It was 157 years ago today, on June 19, 1865, when Union Gen. Gordon Granger went from the piers to downtown Galveston reading General Order Number 3, which said that “all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves.” But it didn’t happen until two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation....

CRISPR has previously been used in humans to remove specific genes to allow the immune system to become more active against cancer. The Kelowna Chamber of Commerce has named Accelerate Okanagan CEO Brea Lake as the winner of its Business Leader of the Year award. Auditor General Karen Hogan found that the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and Infrastructure Canada have not collected sufficient data on their programs, which are designed to connect vulnerable people with homes. These two agencies are largely responsible for delivering the federal government’s National Housing Strategy, which aims to reduce chronic homelessness by 50 per cent by the 2027-28 financial year. The BC Securities and Exchange Commission (BCSC) alleges that Alexander William Bridges and his company Fraser Valley Hop Farms Inc. (FVHF) defrauded 18 investors who invested over $1.8 million for a hop farm the company was supposedly developing. But the commission alleges Bridges and the company used about $500,000 of those funds for non-farm expenses and illegally distributed securities to 13 investors....
