Police are searching for the suspect who left one dead and seven others injured during a shooting early Sunday morning in Omaha, Nebraska.
Officers responded to the shooting around 4 a.m. and “located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds,” the Omaha Police Department said in a news release.
One of the victims died at the Nebraska Medical Center, police said.
“Six additional victims were transported by private vehicle to Nebraska Medical Center and CUMC-Bergan Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries,” the statement added.
Police initially said the shooting injured seven people, then revised the number to 12, before correcting it to seven in an updated version.
Police said it took some time to determine how many victims there were.
Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmanderer said in the updated release that investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument at a party.
“It is imperative that the OPD pieces come together so that there is a resolution for the victims and their families. At this point in the investigation an after-hours party was taking place and a confrontation ensued resulting in shots being fired. There is no indication that it was a random shooting,” Schmaderer said. “Additional OPD resources are being used and police presence will be increased for the time being.”
The department’s homicide unit is handling the case and the team is continuing investigations, police said.
Any tips leading to a suspect “are eligible” for a $25,000 reward, police said.
Correction: This story has been updated to correct the number of injuries based on new information from police.
