York Regional Police say they were called just before 2:45 am. on Davis Drive West in the Township of King for a motor vehicle collision. Police initially said the crash happened in Newmarket. Const. Maniva Armstrong says officers learned that several horses from a nearby farm had somehow “strayed.” A tweet from police says 20 to 30 horses were found roaming the road. After the Newmarket man’s vehicle collided with the horse, it then hit a culvert on the side of the road, Armstrong says. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The horse also died in the crash

The horse also died. “Right now we’re not exactly sure how all the horses got lost from that farm area,” Armstrong said. “However, officers were able to restrain them and were able to return to that location.” Police closed a section of Davis Drive in Newmarket but reopened it Friday afternoon. Police are asking anyone with information about what happened to contact them.
