The temporary appointment of Jason Nixon as Deputy Secretary of the Treasury has been made permanent. The former Minister of Environment and Parks was asked to fill in after the resignation of Travis Toews, former Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Board of the Ministry of Finance to claim the leadership of the UCP The Calgary MLA will be headed by Whitney Issik as Secretary of the Environment and Parks, and her previous role as Undersecretary of State for Women will be filled by Jackie Armstrong Homeniuk, the Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville MLA. The Prasad Panda has been transferred from the infrastructure to the transport portfolio, while the Calgary-Currie MLA Nicholas Milliken is taking over as Minister of Infrastructure. Calgary-South East MLA Matt Jones will be the new Minister for Child Services, a role that was left vacant when Rebecca Schultz chose to run for the UCP. Jason Loan, Minister for Community and Social Services, was acting Minister for Children Services last week. Brad Rutherford, Leduc-Beaumont MLA and deputy government whip, becomes head of state whip and minister without portfolio. The government also announced some changes outside the cabinet:
MLAs Tracy Allard and Jackie Lovely have been appointed to the Treasury Board. Justice Minister Tyler Sandro has been named chairman of the community and family cabinet policy committee. Education Minister Adriana LaGrange has been appointed to the Cabinet for the Implementation of Priorities.
Following a leadership review in May, Kenney announced that he would step down as leader of the United Conservative Party. His replacement is expected to be elected in October.
