The images show a rock formation consisting of a stone balancing on a much larger rock. In a tweet, NASA’s Perseverance team wrote: From older, distant perspectives, my team called this area “the bacon strip.” (The aerial map shows me why.) “Now that I’m at the top, we’m calling it ‘Hogwallow Flats’ – and the nearby cliffs are an attraction. “My team is happy like pigs in the mud (stone)! “I mean, take a look at some of these close-ups. “Tons of possible goals for study. “Paradise for rock nerds like me.” NASA scientists have decided to focus their Perseverance research on the Jezero crater as it was believed that billions of years ago the site housed a lake and a river delta and could provide valuable information about the possibility of ancient life on Mars. Last week, while exploring the same crater, Perseverance shared an image of a shiny silver object wedged between two rocks on the Red Planet floor. However, NASA immediately rejected any suggestion that the object was a sign of extraterrestrial life. READ MORE: Mystery of Mars as rover locates shiny silver trash on Red Planet
