At around 12.30am, police were called to reports of a collision on the M6 northbound between junctions 20 for the M56 at Lymm and 21 for Woolston. Officers rushed to the scene and found that the incident involved three vehicles – a black Peugeot 107, a white Volkswagen Scirocco and a Peugeot 307. The driver of the Peugeot 107, a 41-year-old man from St Helena, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Salford Royal Infirmary. He is believed to have suffered life-changing injuries, according to Cheshire Police. The driver of the Scirocco failed to stop and fled on foot. The incident led to the northbound closure for several hours, resulting in long delays both on the motorway network and through Warrington. A man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in connection with the incident. The driver of the Peugeot 307, a 28-year-old woman from Preston, along with a 25-year-old passenger, were both uninjured. Police are appealing for anyone with information and video footage after the failure to stop the collision to come forward. Sergeant Simon Degg, of the Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a serious collision which left a man with life-changing injuries and we are committed to doing everything we can to establish exactly what happened. “As part of our investigation, we are keen to hear from anyone who was traveling on the M6, near Thelwall at the time of the incident and believes they may have witnessed the collision. “The same goes for anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident. “We would also like to hear from anyone who believes they may have seen the driver leave the scene on foot after the collision. “The collision itself happened near Weaste Lane in Thelwall and we are urging residents living near the motorway to check their CCTV cameras for anyone who may have been around their properties from 12.30am this morning. “We are also asking local residents to check their sheds and outbuildings for any unusual activity. “I urge anyone with any information – no matter how small – to get in touch.” Information can be reported online at www.Cheshire.police.uk/tell-us or by calling 101 quoting IML 1413184
