On Friday, Nov. 11 just after 11 a.m., a man was captured on video emerging from the crowd around the cenotaph of the BC Legislature, where he began pacing back and forth and angrily addressing attendees. “If you can come forward for this, you can come forward and shut down your government…” the man was heard shouting during a live broadcast of the service, which aired on CHEK. The protester went on to mention the war in Ukraine and called on the world to stand up for Africa, while demanding Canada leave NATO. — Victoria Police (@vicpdcanada) November 11, 2022 Two police officers escorted the man out of the ceremony before he “began fighting with officers and was arrested”, VicPD said in a later press release, adding in a tweet: “Not shown on video is the attack when he … fought me and spat at the officers.” The man was then taken to VicPD cells and now faces recommended charges of assaulting a police officer and mischief, police said. Victoria Police Chief Superintendent Del Manack also tweeted that the protester’s actions were “extremely disrespectful”. The incident remains under investigation and investigators are asking anyone who has video and has not yet spoken to officers to call the VicPD report desk at 250-995-7654 extension 1.
