After Toronto recorded its warmest November temperature on record last Saturday, it could be a flurry until this coming weekend. And, before that, the remnants of a tropical storm could bring heavy rain. On Thursday, the city will experience the last sunny day of the stretch. The temperature could also rise to 17 degrees Celsius. By Friday, the weather will still be mild, but the second half of the day is expected to be wet, thanks to the remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole. Nicole hit parts of the northern Bahamas on Wednesday and is forecast to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane before reaching Florida early Thursday morning. Concerns for the state include storm surge, destructive waves, coastal erosion and flooding. The storm is then forecast to swing north towards the Canadian border. By the time she gets close to Ontario, Nicole will be considered a convert. Heavy rainfall will spread far north of the low’s track, and as far north and west as Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The Canadian Hurricane Center says that, in the worst-hit areas, rainfall amounts could range from 50 to 100 mm. The remaining low will then move into the Quebec and Maritime provinces, merging with a separate Colorado Low. This storm will sweep across northern Ontario on Thursday and Friday, bringing snow, ice pellets, ice accumulation and freezing rain to places like Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Mary. As both systems leave Ontario, cooler air will move in thanks to strong northerly and westerly winds. Disturbances will be possible east of the Great Lakes, and possibly Toronto, Saturday night and Sunday. Temperatures will also be more typical of November, with highs in the single digits and lows near or below freezing.
