Lauren Bobert’s unexpectedly tight race for re-election in Colorado has emerged as one of the biggest surprises of the 2022 midterms. As of Wednesday afternoon, the fringe Republican trailed Democratic challenger Adam Fries for her House seat in the state’s 3rd Congressional District by 2,200 votes with 95 percent of the ballots counted. The race remains too close to call – although the New York Times estimates Ms. Bobert will return to victory, based on precincts in the district still to report votes. The tight race comes as a surprise to both Republicans and Democrats – as well as pollsters – since the controversial, flamboyant congresswoman was expected to enjoy a comfortable re-election. Meanwhile, in the Senate race, Democrat Michael Bennett topped Republican Joe O’Dea with 54.9 percent of the vote. The governor also turned blue, with Democrat Jared Polis defeating Republican Heidi Ganal. Show latest update 1668063660

Trump was actually the biggest winner in the midterms — and here’s why
When the GOP inevitably takes back the House and McCarthy scraps the January 6 committee, Trump will bully and bully DeSandis — perhaps all the way to the Oval Office, writes Andrew Buncombe. Bevan Hurley 10 November 2022 03:00 1668045658
Abortion should not have mattered in the medium term
In states where abortion was on the ballot, people voted overwhelmingly in favor of access to the procedure – and where anti-abortion candidates ran in elections, voters tended not to favor them, writes the Independent’s Clémence Michallon. “Exit polls show voters cared much more about abortion than expected: It was the second most important issue on their minds, according to the NBC News poll, just behind inflation and well ahead of crime, gun policy and immigration. “And in states where abortion was expressly on the ballot, people voted for access to the procedure.” Bevan Hurley10 November 2022 02:00 1668042058
